Residency in El Salvador
I recently sat down with my attorney in El Salvador, Rodrigo, to discuss the various ways one can obtain residency in the beautiful country of El Salvador.
Permanent Residency Options
- Investor Visa: Invest a minimum of $100,000 in a local business or real estate.
- Rentier Visa: Demonstrate a monthly income of at least $2,000 from pensions, investments, or other sources.
- Family Reunification Visa: Obtain residency through a close family member who is an El Salvadoran citizen or permanent resident.
- Retirement Visa: Demonstrate a monthly income of at least $1,500 from pensions or other retirement sources.
Temporary Residency Options
- Student Visa: Enroll in an educational institution in El Salvador.
- Work Visa: Obtain employment with an El Salvadoran company.
- Religious Worker Visa: Participate in religious activities in El Salvador.
The process typically involves submitting various documents, such as a passport, proof of income or investment, and criminal background checks. Processing times can vary, but Rodrigo advises clients to allow 2-3 months for the application to be reviewed and approved.
