Pathway to United States Permanent Residency and Citizenship
Permanent Residency Options
The US offers several pathways for foreign nationals to obtain permanent residency, known as a green card. These include:
- Family Sponsorship: US citizens or permanent residents can petition for their relatives to join them.
- Employment-Based Immigration: Individuals with specialized skills or job offers can apply for a green card.
- EB-5 Immigrant Investor Program: Foreign investors can obtain a green card by investing in a US commercial enterprise that creates jobs.
EB-5 Immigrant Investor Program
The EB-5 program allows foreign investors and their families to obtain permanent residency by investing in a US business that creates at least 10 full-time jobs. The investment requirements are:
- $1,050,000 in a non-targeted employment area project, or
- $800,000 in a targeted employment area (rural or high-unemployment) project.
Citizenship through Naturalization
After obtaining permanent residency, individuals may be eligible to apply for US citizenship through naturalization. Requirements include residency, good moral character, and knowledge of English and civics.
Caribbean Citizenship by Investment
As an alternative, individuals may consider Caribbean Citizenship by Investment programs in countries like St. Kitts and Nevis, and Dominica. These offer citizenship options through real estate investment or direct contributions, with minimum investments ranging from $100,000 to $250,000.
Benefits of Caribbean citizenship include increased global mobility, financial security, and access to quality healthcare and education.
