Have you ever wished you wouldn’t have to stand in those pesky lines to recharge your Pass Navigo at the beginning of each month? Look no further because your dreams are being answered. During Vivatech 2019 at Paris Expo Porte de Versailles, Valérie Pécresse announced that the paper metro tickets and Pass Navigo as we know it will be evolving.
Paris will be replacing the paper metro tickets by offering the new Navigo Easy. Much like the Oyster Card in London, this new card can be recharged to hold numerous tickets. No longer will occasional transportation users or tourists have to carry around loose tickets in their pockets or wallets! Instead, for a small fee of €2, you can purchase a reusable Navigo Easy card and top it up for multiple seamless rides on the Paris transport system.
In even more interesting tech news, Pécresse announced that the Pass Navigo will eventually be available on your smartphone. Currently, the discussion is that it will be available on all the latest Samsung models, but no official launch date has been publicized. These changes have all been declared to be set by summer 2020, which is only a year away. While some of these changes have already begun others will take more time, but nonetheless, there are exciting technological advancements occurring in Île-de-France.
