Imagine walking down the Champs-Elysées with no cars around. There are only other people surrounding you, enjoying the grand boulevard and admiring the perfect view of the Arc de Triomphe. This can be your reality if you head over to the famed street on Sunday, July 7, 2019!
For one Sunday each month, the Champs-Elysées will be closed to all cars and available for all pedestrians to appreciate. This follows the plan of “Paris Respire,” which strives to reduce Paris’ fine-particle emissions. In practice, the plan has opened up the streets in multiple arrondissements on Sundays and holidays so that pedestrians can experience the city without car traffic.
The anti-pollution operation has included retracting road privileges for older cars and trucks in an effort to produce a little less damage to our environment. By creating certain restrictions and opening up other avenues for enjoyment, Paris is being innovative in encouraging greener solutions to our current climate issues and helping make situations that could be inconveniences pleasurable if you take advantage of the offerings.
