Algerians in Paris join protests against Bouteflika

In Algeria, demonstrators have been marching en masse against the prospect of a fifth term for President Abdelaziz Bouteflika. But the movement is also inspiring crowds across the Mediterranean in France. Algeria is a former French colony and France today has a large Algerian population. Many are eager to lend support to their fellow protesters in in North Africa, using social media to encourage those of Algerian origin to take to the streets on both sides of the Mediterranean and help end the reign of the controversial, long-serving leader. France 24’s Alexandra Renard and Naomi Lloyd went to meet some of them. For 24-year-old Yahia, it all began with the question, “What can be done by an ordinary citizen with a Facebook account?”
