After losing her mother to stomach cancer in July, Brook Fischer was chatting with a friend who mentioned she had attended a grief support group in California, which had been incredibly helpful for her. Brook thought this sounded a good idea and so started to look for something similar in Paris but without success. Time passed and she eventually decided to simply create the group she had been hoping to find – ‘Rainbow Connection Grief Support’. This support group meets once a week at The American Church in Paris (65 Quai d’Orsay, 75007 Paris). Meetings take place every other Friday evening from 7-9 pm and every other Wednesday from 12-2 pm and are open to anyone who is grieving the loss of a loved one. All meetings are FREE and facilitated by therapist, Brent Brookfield, who specializes in grief therapy. Wednesday meetings are co-facilitated by ACP pastor Allison Wheeler, who is happy to answer any spiritual questions group members may have. It’s important to note that although the American Church is providing the space, this group is for everyone, regardless of religious beliefs. It’s meant to be a safe space to discuss our losses, the ways we’re coping and how we can move forward.
